The Rose Collection’s uPVC Sash Windows Used for Eastbourne Mansion Restoration
Roseview’s award winning Ultimate Rose uPVC sash windows were used to replace the front facing windows at Beverly Court — a Victorian mansion that overlooks Eastbourne’s seafront.
An elegant building on Eastbourne’s seafront
Close to the town centre, Regency Mews and King Edward’s Parade, Beverley Court is a traditional Victorian mansion that looks onto the sea. The elegant 4 storey house is now made up of 12 individual flats.
The owner, Jonathan Horner, was proud of the building’s heritage and decided that he wanted to restore the facade of the property. His priority was the mansion becoming a key part of Eastbourne’s seafront once more. He was also keen to offer his tenants the best possible energy efficiency and comfortable living spaces, which were not being helped by draughts and rotten window frames.
The Rose Collection helps with the planning and conservation process
Jonathan set his sights on restoring the original single glazed timber box sash windows, which, as you can see from the picture to the right, were rotting and reducing the general outlook of the building.
Initially, he was refused permission to use uPVC for this renovation, but with our help and superbly manufactured uPVC sash windows, he managed to appeal the decision. The conservation officer was convinced that our Ultimate Rose range was an appropriate alternative to traditional windows. Following the installation, our range has given the property a new lease of life.
Maintaining traditional style and elegance
Jonathan Horner explained the importance of the project:
“Our priority was to restore the façade of Beverly Court so that the building would once again be an elegant part of Eastbourne’s historic seafront. We deliberately chose the custom made uPVC sash windows because they are almost identical to the original Victorian windows and, used across the whole of the front elevation, we felt they would give the building a feeling of integrity for decades to come.”
“Just as importantly though, we felt that by choosing uPVC sash windows, we would be improving the energy efficiency of the building, cutting fuel costs for our tenants and eliminating the requirement for costly ongoing maintenance and the attendant scaffolding associated with painting and repairing timber box sashes.
“While the conservation officer refused the original application, the material we provided during the appeal helped to convince him that the vertical sliders were a suitable choice and, now that they are installed, the windows look truly stunning.”
The best uPVC sash windows on the market
Our Ultimate Rose collection has been approved for use in numerous conservation areas across the UK and examples of similar installations were used to support the appeal. Technical data and scaled drawings were provided to show how well the manufactured uPVC sash windows could replicate the originals with slim arched head profiles and run-through sash horns, which would mimic the shapes, proportions and detailing.
The run-through sash horns were developed in-house and were a key factor in winning the planning permission contract. In addition to maintaining original aesthetics and improving thermal performance, the new windows eliminate the requirement for costly ongoing maintenance and the scaffolding associated with painting and repairing timber box sashes.
Richard Burrells, Managing Director of Roseview Windows, discusses how:
“Our REHAU Heritage sash window, which we call the Ultimate Rose, incorporates an exclusive stylish run-through sash horn designed to replicate the fine details you would find on a timber sash window. The run-through sash horn was developed by the R&D (Research and Development) team here at Roseview and was a key factor in helping us win this contract.”
